Herta Oberheuser - Nazi Medical Experiments of German Nazi Doctor in Ravensbrück Concentration Camp. Herta Oberheuser was born on May 15, 1911 in Cologne, then German Empire. She completed her studies in 1936 and received her doctorate 1 year later in 1937 when she also became a member of the Nazi party. Herta Oberheuser worked in Ravensbrück concentration camp and with her colleague Fritz Fischer they became the assistants of Karl Gebhardt, who had been sent to Ravensbrück concentration camp to conduct medical experiments on inmates in treating infections with sulfonamide which was an early antibiotic.

Nuremberg Doctors' trial

After the war, these unethical and inhumane medical experiments were uncovered, and Herta Oberheuser finally faced justice. She was arrested and tried at the Nuremberg Doctors' trial where she was the only woman charged with crimes against humanity. In summer 1947 a tribunal sentenced Herta Oberheuser to 20 years in prison for crimes against humanity. Unlike Karl Gebhardt, she avoided death sentence and, at the end, spent only a few years in prison until she was released in 1952. She died in January 1978 at the age of 66. There were no tears shed for Herta Oberheuser.

Aside from learning more about the darkest era in human history, I think that one of the best aspects of these videos are the photos of those who lost their lives in the holocaust. We've seen first-hand accounts on those who managed to survive, but showing biographical information on those who lost their lives makes the unthinkable member of 6 million lost more tangible. These people were not even granted the dignity of a solitary death, and I appreciate that these videos ensure that they are not forgotten.

I love this presentation. It's one of the best videos on Anne Frank and her family. It is true it is believed she and her sister Margot died in February, not March, one day apart. Visit Amsterdam. Visit the Anne Frank Huis Museum. Read The Diary of Anne Frank. Excellent read. There is one thing the narrator forgot to say: "There were tears shed for Anne, Margot, Edith, and the others who died from the Secret Annex."

Excellent video!! The addition of the innocent victims showed the humanity of this horrible part of history. So many times are the places of slaughter simply referred to by name with the human element left out. There were no exceptions for actual PEOPLE, with ages ranging from a few months to seniors well over 80.
